FORKABLE

ROLE
UX/UI Designer (Contractor)

TOOLS USED
Figma, Sketch, Adobe CC, InVision, JIRA
OVERVIEW
Forkable figures out what users want for lunch using AI and automatically delivers to their offices. In 2020, Forkable started to offer residential services for remote workers as well. The service reduces food waste and solves group ordering problem and are able to source from a wide variety of local restaurants with 20x lower delivery costs than normal.

I joined Forkable in January 2020 as a remote contractor to assist the lead designer and help them transition into Figma from Photoshop and Sketch for design consistency, better communicaition, and easier collaboration with the dev and ops team.
WORKING WITH EXISTING BRAND SYSTEM
My responsibilites with Forkable have majorly been designing for pages where updates were due, working closely with the Product Manager, Lead Designer, and the UI Dev.
This was the first time for me to work with an existing design system. However, a lot of the content were outdated, or had unnecessary decimenal point measurements.
DESIGN SYSTEM ON FIGMA
Forkable's designs were originally created in Photoshop (2014), went through multiple iterations, then transitioned into Sketch. The design team did not set up a proper design system, causing the dev team to have a separate system of their own.

This was one of my biggest concern at Forkable, so I suggested and led the transition from Sketch to Figma to ensure consistency in design and development.
LANDING PAGE REDESIGN
Forkable is currently going through a landing page redesign as well as curating a marketing page to compare Forkable's services VS catering company.
Work in progress experimenting with animation/GIFs.
PREFERENCES AND FAVORITES
As one of the final updates for 2020, we decided to utilize the existing data and visualize some of it into a scatter plot chart.
The page contains some features that cannot be shown to the general public. Contact me for a demonstration!
CHALLENGES AND REFLECTION

Working as a part-time Contractor

I have been working with Forkable for almost a year now, and the biggest challenge is the fact that I only dedicate around 20 hours maximum per week on the project. I feel that this limits the level of focus as well as tasks I can take on compared to full-time employees. However, the team has been very inclusive and supportive, and have plans to meet them offline once COVID is resolved.

Importance on Design Systems

One of my biggest interests at the moment is on Design Systems. I experienced firsthand how hard it can be to work with an outdated system, especially once the designs have been deployed. I believe that Design Systems is like having a proper foundation in architecture. Unless the foundation is built well, there may be unsolvable problems in the time ahead.
